Grandfather's Negligence Sentenced in Toddler's Cruise Ship Death
Sentenced to Three Years Probation
Family Files Reinstated Lawsuit Against Royal Caribbean
The grandfather of a toddler who died after falling from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship has been sentenced to three years' probation. In 2019, Chloe Wiegand fell to her death from a 16th-floor window of the Freedom of the Seas as she played with her grandfather, Salvator. The window had been inadvertently left open.
Salvator argued the cruise line was negligent in not having warning signs on the glass, but the court found him liable for the toddler's death. The family has also filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean, which was recently reinstated by a US court.
