4.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Southern California

The 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred at 5:23 PM PDT on Monday, August 12, 2024, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter of the quake was located near Highland Park, a neighborhood in Los Angeles County, not far from the epicenter of a 5.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the same area in July 2024.

The 4.4 magnitude earthquake was felt across Southern California, from Los Angeles to San Diego. The quake caused shaking that was strong enough to rattle buildings and cause minor damage in some areas. However, no serious injuries or major damage has been reported at this time.

The USGS is continuing to monitor seismic activity in the area and has issued a warning that there is a potential for aftershocks in the coming days or weeks. Residents should be prepared for potential shaking and take appropriate safety precautions.
