Major Update That Adds In amiibo Functionality Now Live
Nintendo has released a new update for Animal Crossing: New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS systems, adding in amiibo functionality and a host of new content.
The update, titled "Welcome amiibo," allows players to use their amiibo figures to invite new characters to their town, access special items, and more. The update also includes new furniture and clothing items, as well as new characters and events.
The "Welcome amiibo" update is available now for free for all Animal Crossing: New Leaf owners. Nintendo has also announced that Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo will be released as a standalone game in North America on November 23rd.
The Animal Crossing Direct presentation revealed a surprisingly extensive update for New Leaf. The update lets you summon characters based on popular Nintendo series such as the Super Mario games, The Legend of Zelda series, and Splatoon. You can also invite characters from other Animal Crossing games using amiibo cards. The update includes 50 new furniture items from various Nintendo franchises like Super Mario, the Legend of Zelda, Splatoon, Metroid, and Kirby.
