Unc Quarterback Max Johnson Injured In Opener Says He Plans To Play Next Season

UNC Quarterback Max Johnson Plans to Play Next Season Despite Injury

Tar Heels Signal-Caller Injured in Season Opener

On Tuesday, UNC quarterback Max Johnson announced that he plans to return to the field next season despite suffering an injury in the Tar Heels' season opener against Florida A&M. Johnson, a transfer from LSU, started the game but was knocked out of the contest in the first quarter with an undisclosed injury.

UNC head coach Mack Brown said after the game that Johnson's injury was not considered serious, and the quarterback echoed that sentiment in his statement Tuesday. "I'm feeling good and recovering well," Johnson said. "I'm looking forward to getting back on the field with my teammates next season and helping us compete for a championship."

Johnson's Performance and Injury

Johnson completed 6 of 10 passes for 73 yards before leaving the game against Florida A&M. The Tar Heels went on to win the game 56-24, with backup quarterback Jacolby Criswell leading the offense.

Criswell, a redshirt freshman, impressed in Johnson's absence, completing 11 of 15 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns. Brown said after the game that Criswell would start the Tar Heels' next game against Georgia State on Sept. 10.

Outlook for Johnson and the Tar Heels

Johnson's return next season will be a major boost for the Tar Heels, who are hoping to compete for the ACC Coastal Division title. Johnson is a talented quarterback with a lot of experience, and he is expected to be a key part of UNC's offense in 2023.

The Tar Heels have a tough schedule next season, but they have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. With Johnson leading the offense, UNC has a chance to be one of the top teams in the ACC in 2023.
