James Wade Named New Head Coach Of The Chicago Sky
Former Aces Assistant Coach To Take Over Sky
Wade replaces Amber Stocks, who was fired after four seasons with the team.
The Chicago Sky have named James Wade as their new head coach, the team announced Thursday.
Wade, 45, spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the Las Vegas Aces, helping the team to the WNBA championship in 2022.
Prior to joining the Aces, Wade was the head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team from 2002 to 2020. He led the Gamecocks to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Final Fours and one national championship in 2017.
Wade is known for his up-tempo style of play and his ability to develop young players. He is also a respected voice in the basketball community and is considered one of the top coaches in the WNBA.
The Sky are coming off a disappointing season in which they finished 14-20 and missed the playoffs. Wade will be tasked with turning around the team and getting them back into contention.
Wade is excited about the opportunity to coach the Sky and is confident that he can help the team reach its potential.
"I am thrilled to be joining the Chicago Sky," Wade said in a statement. "This is a great organization with a rich history and a passionate fan base. I am confident that we can build on the success of the past and bring a championship to Chicago."
