Waymo, the self-driving company under Alphabet, is doubling its commercial robotaxi service area in metro Phoenix. The expansion means Waymo One, the company's ride-hailing service, will now operate across 315 square miles, up from the previous 155 square miles.

Expanding Access to Autonomous Rides

The expansion will allow more passengers to experience Waymo's self-driving technology. Waymo One currently operates 247 across 315 square miles of Metro Phoenix, providing a convenient and reliable transportation option for residents and visitors alike.

"We're excited to expand our service area and make it easier for people in metro Phoenix to experience the benefits of self-driving cars," said Tekedra Mawakana, Waymo's chief operating officer. "This expansion is a significant milestone in our mission to make self-driving technology accessible to everyone."

Waymo plans to continue expanding its service area in the coming months. The company is also developing new features and capabilities for Waymo One, including the ability to hail a ride from anywhere within the service area.
