ABC Encourages Listeners to Tune into the Natural World
Sydney, Australia – 7th August, 2021 – As part of this year's National Science Week (August 12-20), the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is launching an initiative to identify Australia's favourite animal sound.
The Quest for the Favourite Animal Sound
Through various ABC projects, including "Listen to the World" and "Science Week," the national broadcaster is inviting the public to participate in a unique sonic exploration. Listeners are encouraged to share their favourite animal sounds, whether it's the enchanting symphony of birdsong or the eerie call of a frog.
ABC Science Editor Jonathan Webb believes the project will foster a deeper appreciation for the natural world and encourage people to engage with their surroundings.
"By tuning into the soundscapes around us, we can connect with the rich diversity of wildlife that calls Australia home," said Webb.Submissions and Voting Process
Participants can submit their favourite animal sounds via the ABC's website or social media platforms. A panel of experts will then compile a shortlist of the most popular submissions, which will be put to a public vote during National Science Week.
The winning animal sound will be announced on ABC Radio's "Science Show" and featured in various ABC programs.
